166 images Created 22 Mar 2013

The remote Areng Valley is at risk of being submerged because of the 108 megawatt Cheay Areng Dam. The project will wipe out the world's largest remaining wild population of Siamese crocodiles and will destroy more than 10.000 hectares of the Central Cardamom Protected Forest (CCPF). It will also flood flood nine Khmer Daeum villages and their ancestral farmlands and 'spirit forests' and forcibly displace more than 900 villagers. What is more the stunning Areng Valley will be lost forever.

This series shows the beauty and culture of the valley as well as an eco-project run by Cambodian Buddhist monks to attempt to save the valley and surrounding forests by blessing the trees.
