Myanmar: The Karen Revolution

Now entering pver 60 years the fight between the Karen National Union and the Myanmar military regime continues making one of the world's longest war.

The Karen National Liberation Army's (KNLA) 5th Brigade training camp is a days walk inside Karen State from the Thai border.

The Karen refuse to give up their state which is located in the the south and southeast of Myanmar and comprises of approximately 7 percent of the total Burmese population of around 50 million people.

Led primarily by the Karen National Union (KNU), has waged a war against the central government since early 1949. The original aim of the KNU was independence but since 1976 the armed group has called for a federal system rather than an independent Karen State.
